Just because some terrorists are Muslim, it does not mean that all Muslims are terrorists. I think some people forget that. Also, just because communism was implemented under a totalitarian regime in Russia, I don't think that means that that form of implementation is the only one and that all the horrible things that happened in the Russian arena are a necessary part of communism.

There is an extreme difference between facts and the ability to learn facts. Teachers can either teach you facts, or the ability to learn more facts. Unfortunately a lot of teachers appear to teach only facts.
Another thought: The Fletcher Stupidity Scale: The number of times your mother has to tell you to stop doing something before you stop. This is a much better measure than IQ tests, as it shows how much common sense you have as well. I have been tested on this scale, and on it I score 482 SPs (Stupidity Points).

War and elections seem to be closely related. The people overboard issue was related to an election. People were trying to get into the country because of war. Thus, war and elections are interrelated. :->

Follow up: I know a bit more about linear/non-linear equations or at least what they are not! I'm about to embark on matriculation math and have been looking for good online resources for matriculation math (grades 9-12) to fill in the blanks. I'd love to discuss Michael Chrichton books - my favourite author, & fractals which has led to my intention to create a fractal-drawing java applet (a project that came out of response to these thoughts).

I'd just like to offer my own personal thoughts on the differences
between linear and non-linear equations and what happens when they cross over:
Chaos theory is a way to
describe that complex things are inherently unstable. But, even then there is an
apparently re-occurring pattern which doubles back upon itself. Not a pattern, a
look:
-if you look at a tall mountain peak you will see a distinctive shape, then if
you look at a small peak of that mountain you will see the same pattern as on
the mountain itself and you can keep doing this, looking further and further in
until you get to a tiny grain. This is part of what is non-linear equations.
Now, linear equations are like the basic things like normal
current/simple ways of looking at things like mathematics.
Now, I think, that the most
complex thing in
the world could be where a non-linear and a linear system interact.
These thoughts have been prompted by my most recent reading of
Michael Crichton's Jurassic
Park.
